Using an accurate level, level the turntable. The turntable is provided with Black Diamond Racing cones that are threaded into the base. These may be unscrewed to level the table. However, leaving the cones tightened and leveling the turntable shelf will most likely have a small sonic advantage.
II. Operation
The Teres controller utilizes an embedded microcontroller that makes operation simple and elegant. To start the motor press the controller button or give the platter a push. The red LED comes on when the motor is coming up to speed. After 5-10 seconds the green LED should also come on indicating that the speed is within 1%. The green LED will flash several times before coming on steady. After the green light has been on for about 4 seconds then the red LED will turn off indicating that the speed is locked in. To turn off the motor press the controller button again or slow down the platter by hand. Holding the pushbutton down for more than one second will switch between 33.3 and 45 rpm.
III. Platter Removal
To avoid damage to the bearing surfaces the platter must be removed without pulling the bearing shaft out of the bearing assembly. To remove the platter lay a piece of wood 12 to 14" long across the centering pin. With your thumbs on each end of the wood grasp the bottom of the platter with your finger tips and squeeze. The platter will slip off easily and the bearing will not be disturbed.
IV. Bearing Assembly
Your Teres bearing comes assembled and ready to use. However, if the bearing is disassembled or removed carefully follow the instructions below for reassembly. A small amount (~5ml) of oil will be needed to reassemble your Teres bearing. The type of oil not critical. Heat and wear are almost nonexistent so synthetics and fancy additives are not necessary. Plain old 30 weight motor oil is recommended but feel free to try whatever you would like. The Teres bearing was designed to have a lot of viscous damping. This damping helps swamp the effects of stylus drag, resulting in better speed stability. For this reason a fairly heavy oil (20-40 weight) is recommended. With a heavy oil the bearing will turn smoothly but there will be a lot of resistance. This is by design. Please read this information carefully before assembling your bearing. The Teres bearing
