Congratulations on your purchase of the Roland TD-3. This TurboStart contains step-by-step instructions that will quickly introduce you to the TD-3�s major features.

Selecting Instruments in a Kit
There are over 100 sounds to choose from in the TD-3. Use the following steps to select instruments in a drum kit: 1. 2. 3. Select a drum kit. Press INST�the INST button flashes. Hit the pad�or area of the pad such as the head or rim�that contains the instrument you wish to change.
Making Audio Connections

Confirm that the power is off on the TD-3, and turn down the volume of your amp, mixer, or PA etc. With standard instrument cables, connect the L (MONO) and R OUTPUT on the TD-3�s rear panel to a pair of inputs on your amp, mixer or PA. If your amp is mono, connect the L(MONO) OUTPUT only. If you prefer, connect your headphones to the TD-3�s PHONES output instead. The TD-3 has a MIX IN jack for connecting a CD or MiniDisc (MD) player so you can play along with your favorite music. For this connection, use a stereo mini cable. Connect one end to the TD-3 MIX IN, and the other end to the headphone output on the CD/MD player. 4. After the connections have been made, turn on the TD-3, and then turn up its VOLUME knob.
Note: Rim shots or dual trigger actions are not possible using the TOM 1-3 jacks on the TD-3. 4. 5. 6. Press the + or � buttons to select the desired instrument. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for the remaining pads if desired. Press DRUM KIT when you�re finished. The settings are stored automatically.

Adjusting the Instrument Volume
The volume, or �level,� can be adjusted for any of the instruments in a drum kit. Use the following steps to adjust the level of an instrument: 1. Select a drum kit. 2. Press LEVEL/PAN so the level value is in the display�the LEVEL/PAN button flashes. Note: Each press of the LEVEL/PAN button alternates between the level and pan settings. 3. 4. 5. Hit the pad to select the instrument whose volume you�d like to change. Press the + or � buttons to increase or decrease the instrument�s volume. Press DRUM KIT when you�re finished. The settings are stored automatically.
Selecting Drum Kits
There are 32 drum kits to choose from in the TD-3. Use the following steps to select one: 1. Press DRUM KIT so it�s lit. 2. Press the + or � buttons to select the desired kit.
Drum Kit Preview
Drum Kit Preview plays a pattern that lets you audition the sounds in the currently selected drum kit. Use the following steps to try out Drum Kit Preview: 1. Select a drum kit. 2. Press and hold DRUM KIT and then press INST�the DRUM KIT button flashes. 3. Press DRUM KIT to stop the preview pattern. Tip: You can press + or � to select other drum kits while the preview pattern is playing.
Starting Over
If you�d like to redo the TD-3�s settings from scratch, use the following procedure to clear the TD-3�s internal memory and reload its factory settings. Caution: When you perform the following steps, all USER information will be lost. Be sure to back up any information you wish to keep first. 1. 2. 3. Turn off the TD-3. Power on while holding the + and - buttons. Release + and -, and then press DRUM KIT.
