10 The Initial Setup Menu
DTS Out
Default setting: Off Audio DRC is not effective when listening to a disc via the digital output when Dolby Digital Out is set to Dolby Digital. In this case adjust the dynamic range from your AV amplifier/receiver.
See page 29 for more on this setting.
If you set to On with a non-DTS compatible amplifier, noise will be output when you play a DTS disc. When set to On, there is no analog audio output when playing a DTS DVD-Video disc. When playing a DTS audio CD (even when DTS Out is Off), noise is output from the analog outputs. Do not play this through your amplifier and speakers. When playing a DTS audio CD, make sure that Stereo is selected using the AUDIO button. See page 50.

Audio DRC
 Default setting: Off
This setting is your preferred audio language for DVD discs. If the language you specify here is recorded on a disc, the recorder automatically plays the disc in that language (although this depends on the Auto Language settingsee page 83). When watching Dolby Digital DVDs at low volume, its easy to lose low level sounds completelyincluding some of the dialog. Switching on Audio DRC (Dynamic Range Control) can help by bringing up the low level sounds, while controlling high level peaks. The Off setting leaves the original dynamics intact; Max squashes the dynamics the most. Exactly how much difference you can hear between the settings will depend on the material. Choose Other if you want to specify a language other than English or French (see page 84).
You can switch between the languages recorded on a DVD disc any time during playback using the AUDIO button. (This does not affect this setting.)
