If printing onto envelopes, insert them so that the side to be printed on is facing upward and so that the flap on the reverse side is at the right when looking from the front of the printer. Leave a gup of approximately 1mm between the paper guide and the left edge of the envelope.

Press the top-right corner of the face-up output cover 1 to move the face-up output cover 2 so that it is completely closed. The printed page will come out face-down into the face-down output tray 3. If the paper is too long to lie flat in the face-down output tray, raise the output tray paper support to support the paper.

C. Printing on Non-Standard Paper
Face-up printing feeds the paper face up from the front of the printer and stacks each page in reverse order. Because the path that the paper takes through the printer is straighter than for face-down printing, it is useful to use this method for printing on media that doesnt bend easily, such as thick paper, transparency film, envelopes and label sheets. The face-up output cover must be open in order for the paper to come out face up. (Note) When printing envelopes, transparencies and labels, do not overstock the multipurpose paper tray, otherwise paper jams may occur. If a paper jam does occur, feed items one envelope or sheet at a time. Press the bottom-right corner of the face-up output cover 1. The face-up output cover will open in the direction of the arrow 2, and the printed page will come out below the face-up output cover 3.

(Notes)

Do not put too much paper into the multipurpose paper tray, otherwise you may get paper jams when printing. If there is some space between the paper guide and the left edge of the paper, or if the paper guide is pushing the paper so hard that the paper buckles, the paper may not feed properly, and skewed print output or paper jams may result.

4. Push the paper release lever back. The multipurpose paper tray will move back slightly and the paper will be clamped by the paper feed roller inside the printer.

(Note) If not using the printer for a long period of time, remove any unused paper from the multipurpose paper tray and store it in a drawer or cabinet where it will be protected from high humidity. If the paper is left in the multipurpose paper tray for a long time, it will absorb moisture from the air, and this can cause the paper to jam frequently.

D. Lowering the Output Tray Paper Support
If you have raised the output tray paper support and would like to lower it again, you can do so as shown below. Lift up the flap at the rear of the output tray paper support. While holding up this flap, gently lower the output tray paper support.

B. Printing on Standard Paper
In this method, the printed pages come out face down at the top of the printer and are stacked in the face-down output tray. Because this method doesnt need any extra space to be left around the printer, it is the output method which is most commonly used for standard types of paper. The face-down output tray can hold a maximum of about 50 sheets of standard paper. The face-up output cover must be closed in order for the paper to come out face down.
