SMS point-to-point messages
First Enter the List menu by pressing Select »SMS« The phone number of the message sender or the name (if stored in your phone book) will be displayed in front of the message. You can now scroll through the message by using the arrow keys. The message is automatically stored in the inbox if you do not delete it. In addition to reading the message, you can press »OPTION« and � delete it � send a reply � forward it to another phone number � edit it before sending � extract a phone number, if any, from the message to call or to store in your phone book � call back to the sender When a message has been read it will be indicated by a � to the left of the date of receipt. � How to read a message at a later moment If you have used your phone after having received a new message, you have to enter the Inbox to read it. The SMS indicator tells you that there are still unread messages, and remains on the standby display until all messages have been read.
SMS point-to-point messages
Outbox The messages you send are automatically stored in the outbox where you can always find them again. If you enter the outbox and select one of your messages, you can press »OPTION« and � delete it � forward it to another phone number � edit it before sending � extract a phone number, if any, from the message to call or to store in your phone book � Delete messages from Inbox/Outbox If the SMS indicator is flashing, it indicates that the message memory is full. You can delete all messages stored either in the Inbox or the Outbox at the same time. This is done by entering the Setup menu, see page 28. New SMS To send a message you have to enter your network operator's telephone number for this special service. Further, you have to set up the validity period you want for your messages and confirm that you want to send the message as a text. To set up these parameters once and for all, you must enter the Setup menu (page 27). If you do not do so, you will be asked for a specification each time you wish to send a message. Once the parameters are set up, you enter the option »New SMS«. Start entering your message using the keypad in the same way as you enter a name or a telephone number in the phone book. moves the cursor to the left, moves the cursor to the right. Delete unwanted characters by pressing »CLEAR«. If you want to use the SMS message press the -symbol in your -key briefly twice.
SMS (Short Message Service)
SMS are short text messages that your phone can receive and send via the network. On some networks you have to subscribe to this facility. There are two types of SMS: point-to-point messages which you can both receive and send, and broadcast messages which you can only receive. Entering the SMS menu gives you these options: »Inbox« »Outbox« »New SMS« »Broadcasts« »Voice mail« Inbox A new incoming message will be indicated by the SMS indicator on the standby display, as well as by a message tone (if enabled � see the Setup menu page 23). The display will also tell you how many new messages there are for you. � Immediate access to a new message When the symbol appears in your display together with the number of new messages, you get immediate access to your inbox simply by pressing . The display will show date and time of each individual message received, and you can then select and read the message(s) you want to.
Once you have ended your message by pressing »OK«, you can »Send SMS« at once or you can »Save SMS« and send it later on. If you select »Send SMS« the phone will ask for a phone number to send the message to. Either enter a phone number or select one from your phone book using . Accept by pressing »OK« and your message will be sent.
