Care and Cleaning
Clean your air conditioner occasionally to keep it looking new. Be sure to unplug the unit before Cleaning to prevent shock or fire hazards. Air Filter Cleaning The air filter should be checked at least once a month to see if cleaning is necessary. Trapped particles in the filter will build up and can also cause an accumulation of frost on the cooling coils. There are two types of filters -the floppy filter and the rigid filter. Find the filter removal instructions that belong with your model. l On models with floppy filters, remove the slotted screw on each side of the cabinet with a standard screwdriver. Pull the front toward you and pull the filter from its recess. See figures 1 and 2. l Units with rigid filters allow you to remove the filter without removing the front. Simply grasp filter, located behind the front panel, and pull up (see figure 3), or gently pull the top or bottom of the front panel towards you, pivoting it away from the cabinet. Pull filter either up or down and out by grasping tabs on the filter frame. See figure 4. l For compacts, the vent door handle and the control door must be in the closed position when removing the filter for cleaning. l On slider-casement models, press down on the top of the front panel. Gently pull the top of the panel out from the cabinet. Pull the filter straight up and out. See figure 5. l Wash the filter with liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Rinse the filter thoroughly. Gently shake the excess water from the filter. Replace the filter. Cabinet Cleaning l Be sure to unplug the air conditioner to prevent shock or fire hazard. The cabinet and front may be dusted with an oil-free cloth or washed with a cloth dampened in a solution of warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry. l Never use harsh cleaners, wax, or polish on the cabinet front. l Be sure to wring excess water from the cloth before wiping around the controls. Excess water in or around the controls may cause damage to the air conditioner. l The cabinet front can be removed for more thorough cleaning. Follow directions for removing the fronts below. l Clean the front using a liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Be careful not to disturb any soft seals on the front. l Replace the cabinet front, filtgr, and front panel making sure the screws or hex nuts are sec, urely in place.

Winter
Storage
If you plan to store the air conditioner during the winter, remove it carefully from the window according to the installation instructions. Cover it with plastic or return it to the original carton. Note: To prevent rust or electrical shock, and electrical connections from being damaged, store air conditioner in an upright position and a dry place. A winter cover can be purchased from your dealer or authorized service agency. The cover will protect the air conditioner when it is left in place through the winter.
