burn it. Always make sure you select a temperature that is suitable for your hair type. Always select a low temperature setting when you start using the straightener for the first time. For coarse, curly or hard-to-straighten hair, select a medium to high setting (180 and up). For fine, medium-textured or softly waved hair, select a medium to low setting (170 and down). Take extra care with pale, blonde, bleached or colour-treated hair, since it will be susceptible to damage at high temperature settings. The display shows the selected temperature setting and the remaining time of the straightening session. The bars on the display show the remaining usage time of the straightener. The total usage time is 60 minutes. Every ten minutes one of the six bars disappears. After 60 minutes the appliance switches off.

1 Insert the plug into the wall socket. 2 Press the on/off button. , The default temperature setting of 120 appears on the display. As soon as the appliance has heated up to this setting, the word �READY� appears on the display (Fig. 2). Never leave the appliance unattended when it is plugged in. Never put the appliance on a surface that is not heat-resistant when it is heating up and when it is hot. Tip: the straightener heats up more quickly if you lock the plates with the closing lock. 3 Set the temperature you want to use by pressing the + button to increase the temperature setting or by pressing the - button to decrease the temperature setting. Tip: it is better to section off the crown area and to straighten the hair underneath first, followed by the top area. 6 Take a section that is not wider than 5 cm. Place it between the straightening plates and press the handles of the appliance firmly together. 7 Slide the straightener down the length of the hair in 5 seconds, from root to hair end, without stopping to prevent overheating (Fig. 5). 8 Repeat this process after 20 seconds until you have achieved the desired look. 9 Allow your hair to cool down. Do not comb or brush it before it has cooled down, as this would ruin the hairstyle you have just created. Cleaning 1 Make sure the appliance is switched off and unplugged. 3 Clean the appliance with a damp cloth. Troubleshooting If problems should arise with your straightener and you are unable to solve them by means of the troubleshooting guide below, please contact the nearest Philips service centre or the Philips Customer Care Centre in your country. Problem , The appliance does not work at all.
1 Perhaps there is a power failure or the socket is not live. Check if the power supply is working. If it is, check whether the socket is live by plugging in another appliance. 2 Check if the mains cord of the appliance is damaged. If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
