Filling water, beans or ground coffee
Before using the coffee system for the first time, clean the appliance. See "Cleaning and Care".
Filling the water tank
The beans and the water quality is important for a good espresso or coffee. If the machine is plumbed to a water line and turned on, the water tank is automatically filled. Empty the water tank daily. The unit displays a reminder when turned on. When using the coffee system with the water tank, only fill the water tank with cold, fresh tap water. Never add hot water or any other liquids except cold water to the water tank. Do not use mineral water. Mineral water leads to heavy calcium built-up in the machine that can damage the unit. ^ Open the appliance door by grasping the recess next to the hot water spout and pulling the door towards you.
^ Pull the water tank out. ^ When using the coffee system with the water tank, fill the tank with fresh, cold tap water to the "Max." mark. A valve at the front of the tank prevents leaks. ^ Close the lid and push the water tank into the unit until it clicks into place. The water tank must be positioned correctly or the valve will leak. If the water tank has not clicked into place, pull the tank out, check and clean the niche.
